Description of Linoleum Sky

Painting is a progression of understanding. You learn more and more of what your materials are capable of. You learn more and more about the nuance and subtlety of your subject—in this case an autumn sky seen lying on my back looking up through old maple trees in Devou Park on a late October day.

Jackson Pollock said “technique is just a method of expressing your feelings.” I found that the controlled, contrived brush work could never transmit the feelings of the cool wind stirring the leaves and shaking the branches. The dynamic of light finding holes and making passage. Using this technique of paint application, this motif has all the freshness and truth of a first kiss….the first impression.
